Statements of Truth on Divine Guidance
by David A. DePra
God's primary way of leading His people is through an ongoing, inward revelation of His Son, Jesus Christ.
God is speaking Christ, for He is the Living Word of God. All that God does will agree with Christ in nature, character, and purpose.
There are times when we must have specific guidance from God. Despite the fact that all of God's guidance will agree with scripture and with Christ, during these times the guarantee that we will know God's will is that we open our hearts to Him for His will, no matter what it takes and regardless of cost.
Know Christ and you will eventually know His will -- for HE is the Light, and HE is the Truth under which His will is seen.
God will sometimes allow us to make mistakes in discerning His will. He is exposing the error and ignorance that is in us. This is how He trains those whom He loves.
We tend to make the goal a, "thing," called, "God's will," but God's goal is often Christ Himself. God's will can then emerge.
It would be a shallow Christian life if it consisted merely of, "leadings," and left us void of knowing and experiencing Christ Himself.
"If your eye be single, your entire body will be full of light." Be unconditionally committed to Christ -- open and exposed to Him -- and you will come to know, not only His will, but you will know it in the light of knowing Christ Himself.
What we call, "knowing the will of God," God calls knowing the Truth and knowing His mind.
We cannot rightly know the will of God unless our minds are renewed according to the Truth.
We cannot want the will of God more than God wants us to discover it.
Jesus Christ is the Truth; Jesus Christ is the Living Word. It is therefore folly to seek God for mere INFORMATION about His will. We need a REVELATION of the One who carries the Truth of His will, and Who IS His living Word for us.
